Nearly 500 contractual teachers of government-run residential tribal schools of Nashik division have demanded regularisation of their services.

The teachers, along with their families, from Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar and Ahmendnagar came here on Tuesday and since then have been sitting outside the tribal development office in the cold weather, to press for their demand.

Eight teachers had to be hospitalised yesterday after their health deteriorated due to to the cold conditions, teachers' union secretary S P Gavit claimed today.

Since most of the teachers have been working in the ashram schools for past 14 years, they want their services to be regularised, Gavit said.

State tribal development minister Vishnu Savra has assured to discuss the issue with concerned officials in Mumbai on December 30, he said adding that, however, they are yet to take a decision on calling off their agitation.
