Hundreds of contractual workers today held a silent protest outside the office of Rajasthan University's Vice Chancellor demanding regularisation of their jobs.

Over 350 men and women workers led by Contract Employees' Association President Deepak Kumar Sharma held the silent sit-in holding placards and posters.

About 600 such non-teaching employees have been working in the varsity for many years, and their jobs have not been regularised, Sharma said, adding that the new government had set up a committee headed by Health Minister Rajendra Rathore which was yet to take a move regarding this.

When asked, Vice Chancelloe, Dr Swarup said, "None of these are employees of the University of Rajasthan. A number of private institutions have hired them for varsity's various day to day work.

"They have come through different job agencies which are responsible for their job prospectus, not the university," he said.
