The opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh today demanded that the state government convene an all party meet to discuss farmers' issues and drought conditions in the state.

The opposition parties -- Congress, YSR (Congress), CPI and CPI(M) jointly staged a protest here demanding minimum support price for chillies, turmeric and sought compensation for farmers who have incurred heavy losses due to the prevailing drought condition in the state.

City congress president Malladi Vishnu said, "The government should take both long term and short term measures to mitigate the drought conditions in the state."

The chilli farmers are unable to get minimum support price for their produce and so the government should purchase the commodity to relieve them of financial stress, he said.

Vishnu also demanded that the state government provide financial relief to the families of farmers who have committed suicide due to debt burden.
