A cook allegedly looted cash and jewellery worth Rs 40 lakh with his two accomplices from the house he was employed in, after locking the owner, her grand daughter and the maid, police said today.

The incident took place yesterday when Tajender Kaur (60) was at home with her 11-month-old grand daughter and their maid, while her husband, her son and his wife were away for some work, a senior police officer said.

The cook, Vinod who is a native of Gonda in Uttar Pradesh, had joined the household three days back. Yesterday, he came to work and later also called his accomplices, he said.

The three men locked the two women in separate rooms and also gagged the elderly woman and left with all the jewellery and cash that was kept at home amounting to Rs 40 lakh, the officer said.

They also looted the mobile phones of the two women. Police is scanning the CCTV footage of the house to gather clues, the officer said.
