NCP women's wing today held a novel protest to highlight "high" prices of tur dal as they gathered at the party office in south Mumbai and held a 'cookery show' wherein they cooked tur dal on gas stoves.

NCP women's wing president Chitra Wagh said normal tur dal gets cooked after three whistles from the cooker, but the tur dal supplied by the BJP-led government takes five whistles to cook and is not edible.

In November, under pressure over high prices of pulses, the state government had decided to release the confiscated stock lying in godowns, saying it will effectively bring down the rate of tur dal to Rs 100 per kg.

The chief minister had also asked the Ministry of Food and Civil Supplies to release the seized stock of tur dal to bring down the prices in the market.
