Tension prevailed in Nasirabad village of Jalgaon district today after members of a community took to streets protesting "objectionable" remarks allegedly made by a Sub Inspector here, following which he was placed under suspension.

Sub Inspector Ramesh Kashinath Nagrale has been suspended after the incident, Jalgaon Superintendent of Police Jalinder Supekar said.

Trouble began when Nagrale was addressing a gathering at the Idgah ground in Nasirabad on the occasion of Eid-ul Azha where he was invited as a guest.

The officer made some objectionable remarks which infuriated the audience, the SP said.

Agitated members allegedly roughed up the PSI.

Later, a mob blocked the NH-6 stretch for nearly an hour and pelted vehicles on the highway with stones, and demanded action against the cop.

Soon after, additional force was rushed to the spot and the situation was brought under control, the SP said, adding that the situation is peaceful now.
