Cop assaulted, killed in liquor den raid in Maha's Amravati

A police constable was today killed and an assistant sub-inspector grievously injured after they were attacked during a raid on an illicit liquor den, a senior official said.

Police constable Satish Madavi (32) and ASI Shyamlal Jadhav (55) had gone to raid an illicit country liquor den in Manjarkhed village under Chandur Railway police station limits when they were assaulted by a group of five to six country liquor vendors, Abhinash Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Amravati (Rural) said.

"Madavi died on the spot while Jadhav suffered serious injuries and is being treated at a private hospital," Kumar said.

Police officials said that Jadhav suffered injuries to his head and fingers and had fractured his forearm.

 

The group of liquor vendors who attacked the two were armed with bamboos and axes, officials said.

"Three people have been picked up for questioning. An FIR has been filed at Chandur Railway police station. Further investigations are underway," Kumar said.
