A policeman, who was booked for murder attempt after he allegedly set a youth on fire over a dispute, was today terminated from service.

Head constable Manjit had allegedly set 18-year-old Inderjit, an employee of a scrap dealer, on fire last Tuesday night after the latter refused his demand for a wine bottle.

He was dismissed by Rewari Superintendent of Police, Pankaj Nain, today, police said.

While the youth is undergoing treatment at the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, Manjit is still on the run.

According to police sources, Manjit reached near a liquor outlet beside the scrap dealer's shop and asked Inderjit to get him a bottle of wine.

After being refused, Manjit allegedly poured petrol from a can he was carrying on Inderjit and set him on fire.

Soon, the head constable fled the spot, police had said earlier.
