A policeman was found hanging at his residence on the city outskirts in an apparent case of suicide, the police said today.
Head constable Bishan Singh was found hanging from the ceiling of his room at Lower Jallochak in the Gangyal area yesterday, a police official said.
He said a police party rushed to the spot after hearing about the incident and found him dead.
The body was handed over to his family members after completion of legal formalities, including post mortem, the official said.
He said inquest proceedings have been initiated in connection with the Singh's death.
Quoting preliminary investigations, the official said he had apparently committed suicide.
However, the cause of his taking such an extreme step was not known immediately, he added.
