Cop held for accepting Rs 5,000 bribe

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a Sub Inspector of police (SI) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 for doing an official favour.

SI Veeranjaneyulu, posted at Vangara police station in Srikakulam was caught red-handed by the ACB sleuths while accepting the bribe, Ranga Raju, Deputy SP of ACB, Srikakulam, said.

According to him, the son of the complainant was involved in a road accident in July, while he was riding a motorcycle. Following which his vehicle had been taken into the custody of police.

When the complainant approached Veeranjaneyulu, he demanded Rs 5,000 for releasing the bike. Irked over this, the complainant informed the ACB and a trap was laid.
 

The accused will be produced before a special ACB court in Visakhapatnam tomorrow.
