The Jammu and Kashmir Police today rewarded a constable after he foiled a weapon snatching attempt in a bank in the Charar-e-Sharief area of Budgam district.

Director General of Police S P Vaid presented a certificate along with a cash reward of Rs 10,000 to constable Farooq Ahmed, a police spokesman said here.

The incident took place on August 7 when three men tried to snatch a rifle from Ahmed, deployed as a guard, at the J-K Bank's Charar-i-Sharief branch in central Kashmir, but the vigilant policeman foiled their attempt.

"Ahmed has been rewarded for showing a presence of mind, exemplary courage and commitment towards his duties while repulsing the rifle snatching attempt," he said.

CCTV footage shows the "exemplary valour" exhibited by the policeman, the spokesman said.

He said the police has released the photographs of the three people involved in the incident and sought information about them.
