A 14-year-old boy was allegedly inflicted burns and beaten up by a Circle Inspector of Police and six others at nearby Kundara.
The boy alleged that he was threatened and roughed up by the police officer and his companions, who were in an inebriated state, without any provocation.
Police said a case had been registered under IPC 323 (deliberately causing hurt), based on the complaint lodged by parents of the victim.
The Circle Inspector, attached to the Crime Branch in Kottayam, and his companions are absconding, police said.
