Cop, others arrested for looting Rs 91 lakh in defunct notes

A police officer and four others were today arrested in Medak district of Telangana for allegedly robbing a businessman of Rs 91 lakh in the defunct currency notes.

According to the police, two men, Y Venkatesham and K Raju Goud, told Baswakoti Lingam, a businessman, that they could exchange his old currency notes with new notes for a commission.

As decided, Baswakoti went to Keshav Rao farmhouse at Kallakal on the night of December 12 with Rs 91 lakh in old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.

Venkatesham, K Raju Goud and three others, one of whom was wearing police uniform, reached there, and allegedly took away the money after threatening to kill him.
 

After Baswakoti filed a complaint, police arrested sub-inspector Anand Goud who is attached to Manoharabad police station, Venkatesham, K Raju Goud, Pariyal Singh and Bhikshapathy.

Police recovered Rs 34 lakh from them. The accused were sent in judicial remand, said Toopran Deputy Superintendent of Police Venkateshwarlu. Further probe is on.
