A police inspector posted at a city police station was today suspended for dereliction of duty in connection with the probe of a girl, who had been allegedly abducted about ten days back.

Police Inspector of Gujarat University police station A R Modiya was suspended today for "not doing enough" to find a minor girl, who, according to her parents, was abducted on March 18.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police, Sector-1 of city Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat, Modiya was found guilty of not conducting proper investigation into the case as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court about the complaints related to abductions of minors.

"The complaint had been registered more than a week back, but Modiya did not conduct in-depth investigation required in such cases as per the guidelines of Supreme Court. He not only failed to trace the abducted girl and nab the kidnapper, but also found guilty of not giving proper answers to her worried parents," Bhagat said.

On March 18, a 16-year-old girl went missing from Polytechnic College area of the city. Since her vehicle was found near the gate of the Polytechnic College, a complaint of abduction was filed by her parents with Gujarat University police station. However, she has not been found yet.
