The action was taken against Parli police inspector Ramrao Gadekar in connection with the case involving doctor couple Sudam Munde and his wife Sarswati Munde, who had allegedly conducted an illegal abortion on the woman in May this year, Superintendent of Police Dattatrya Mandlik told PTI.

The sugarcane worker Vijaymala Patekar had died on May 18 during the abortion procedure at the hospital, run by the doctor couple.

According to the SP, the Director General of Police has ordered the suspension.

Investigation of the case had been given to Ambajogai's sub-divisional officer Swati Bhor.

Ambajogai tehsil court had earlier said that Gadekar had played a "dubious role" in making an application to the court to temporarily remove charges against the doctor couple under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act and PCPDNT act.

According to the court judgment, Gadekar played a suspicious role in the case and that the Munde couple had "dramatically" got bail.

Gadekar had recently been transferred to Beed Police Control room and was suspended today.
