A police inspector was today suspended after a case of abetment to suicide was registered against him following suicide by his alleged live-in partner at her flat here, police said.
Upmanyu Saxena was allegedly having an affair with the 32-year-old Indu Sharma who was working as an assistant professor with a private college here, a senior officer said.
Sharma killed herself at her flat in Misrod area of the city yesterday by hanging herself to a ceiling fan.
She took the extreme step apparently due to a dispute with Saxena, who is already married, over their relationship, the officer said.
Sharma had shifted to Saxena's flat in Misrod area about one-and-a-half-years back and her family members knew the officer, he said.
It was Saxena who had informed police about suicide when he had gone to the flat in morning hours, sources said.
Police later seized Saxena's clothes, photographs and other material belonging to him from the flat.
Meanwhile, Sharma's family delayed taking possession of her body after postmortem, demanding Saxena's arrest at the earliest.
Superintendent of Police (SP), (Rural), T Amongla Iyer said that investigations are going on in the matter and a case has already been registered against Saxena in this regard.
