Copper prices edged higher by Rs 2 per kg at the non-ferrous metal market today following pick up in demand from consuming industries coupled with a firm global cues.
Traders said besides pick up in demand from consuming industries, a better trend overseas as strong economic data from China fueled speculation that demand will strengthen in the Asian nation, the world's largest metals consumer, mainly led to the rise in copper prices.
Globally, copper for delivery in three months rose 2.6 per cent, the biggest increase since June 15 to USD 4,771.50 per tonne at the London Metal Exchange in yesterday's trade.
