Copper futures climb 0.77% on global cues, spot demand

Tracking a firm trend overseas , copper prices went up by 0.77 per cent to Rs 453.90 per kg in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February rose by Rs 3.45, or 0.77 per cent to Rs 453.90 per kg in business turnover of 17,451 lots.

In a similar fashion, the metal for delivery in far-month April gained Rs 3.15, or 0.69 per cent to Rs 457.30 per kg in 423 lots.

Analysts said apart from a firming trend in base metals in global markets, pick up in demand from consuming industries at domestic spot market, mainly led to rise in copper prices at futures trade.
 

Globally, copper for delivery in three month was up USD 88.50 to USD 7,138.50 per tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
