Copper prices edged higher by 0.17 per cent to Rs 363.85 per kg in futures market today as speculators built up fresh positions following uptick in demand in the spot market.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in June traded higher by 60 paise, or 0.17 per cent, to Rs 363.85 per kg, in a business turnover of 881 lots.
Likewise, the metal for delivery in far-month August edged up by 35 paise, or 0.10 per cent, at Rs 367.65 per kg in 14 lots.
Market analysts said fresh positions created by traders after pick up in demand from consuming industries at domestic spot market, mainly led to the rise in copper prices at futures trade but weak trend overseas capped the gains.
