Copper prices moved down by 0.08 per cent to Rs 427.15 per kg in futures trade today as speculators reduced positions amid a weak trend in Asian trade and subdued demand in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in August shed 35 paise, or 0.08 per cent, to Rs 427.15 per kg in a business turnover of 2,115 lots.

November copper traded lower by 20, or 0.05 per cent, to Rs 436 per kg in 241 lots.

Analysts said the fall in copper prices at futures trade was largely in tune with a weak trend in Asian trade and low demand at spot markets.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in October retreated 0.20 per cent to 50,670 yuan ($8,232) a metric tonne at the Shanghai Futures Exchange.

The London Metal Exchange remained closed today for 'Summer Bank Holiday'.
