Copper falls by 0.1% on global cues

Speculators trimmed positions amid weak global cues

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Copper prices fell by 0.12% to Rs 384.40 per kg in futures trade today as speculators trimmed positions amid weak global cues.

Besides, low demand at domestic spot markets put pressure on prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April fell by 45 paise or 0.12%, to Rs 384.40 per kg in business turnover of 868 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in June traded lower by 40 paise, or 0.10%, to Rs 389.20 per kg in 17 lots.

Market analysts said trimming of positions by speculators, tracking a weak trend in base metals overseas on a weakening demand outlook in China, mainly kept pressure on copper prices in futures trade.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three month at the London Metal Exchange was little changed at $6,080 per tonne, while in Shanghai, copper for June delivery retreated 0.4% to 43,670 yuan a tonne.
