Copper prices were down by 0.45% to Rs 408.10 per kg in futures trade today as participants reduced positions amid a weak global trend.

Copper for delivery in February 2015 was down by Rs 1.85, or 0.45%, to Rs 408.10 per kg at the Multi Commodity Exchange in a business volume of 3,551 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in April next year shed Rs 1.55, or 0.37%, to Rs 412.10 per kg in a business volume of 44 lots.

Marketmen attributed the fall in copper futures to weak global cues after data showed industrial activity is contracting in China, the biggest consumer of base metals.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months at the London Metal Exchange fell 0.5% to $6,368.25 a metric tonne, while in Shanghai it dropped by 1.8% to 45,850 yuan ($7,404) per tonne.
