Copper prices moved down by 1.49 per cent to Rs 450.15 per kg in futures trade today as speculators trimmed positions amid weak trend overseas.

Besides, sluggish demand from consuming industries in the spot market, fuelled the downtrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in November month fell by Rs 6.80, or 1.49 per cent to Rs 450.15 per kg in business turnover of 9,338 lots.

Analysts said apart from a weakening trend in base metals in global markets, easing demand from consuming industries in the physical market, mainly attributed the side in copper prices at futures trade.

Globally, copper for delivery in three- month ended down 0.3 per cent at USD 6,986 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange in yesterday's trade.
