Copper falls by 1% on weak global cues

Speculators trimmed positions amidst a weak trend in global markets

Copper futures fell 1% to Rs 368.90 per kg today as speculators trimmed positions amidst a weak trend in global markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April declined by Rs 3.95, or one%, to Rs 368.90 per kg in a business turnover of 1,146 lots.

The metal for delivery in far-month June shed Rs 3.75, or 0.99%, to Rs 373.45 per kg in a business volume of 12 lots.

Analysts said a weak trend in base metals at the London Metal Exchange (LME) after data showed manufacturing slowed in the US and before policy makers unveil growth targets in China, weighed on prices at futures trade here.
 
Globally, copper for delivery in three-months dropped 0.8% to $5,860.50 per tonne at the LME, while the mtal for delivery in May in Shanghai slid 1.7% to 42,480 yuan ($6,769) per tonne.
