Copper prices rose by 0.44 per cent to Rs 388.50 per kg in futures trade today as speculators built up fresh positions on the back of rising demand in domestic spot markets amid a firming trend overseas.
In futures trading at the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April traded higher by Rs 1.70, or 0.44 per cent, to Rs 388.50 per kg in a business turnover of 5,927 lots.
Metal for delivery in far-month June also rose Rs 1.50, or 0.38 per cent, to Rs 392.50 per kg in 53 lots.
Analysts attributed the rise in copper futures to a firm trend at the domestic markets following pick up in demand from consuming industries and strength in metal at the London Metal Exchange (LME).
