Copper prices edged up by 0.12 per cent to Rs 373.40 per kg in futures trade today as speculators built up fresh positions due to upsurge in demand in the spot markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in June edged higher by 45 paise, or 0.12 per cent to Rs 373.40 per kg in business turnover of 498 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in far-month August traded higher by a similar margin to Rs 377.05 per kg in 9 lots.

Market analysts said fresh positions created by traders after pick up in demand from consuming industries at domestic spot market, mainly led to the rise in copper prices at futures trade.
