Buoyed by a firm global trend and increased domestic demand, copper prices traded higher by 0.34 per cent to Rs 367.40 per kg in futures trade today as participants created fresh positions.

At Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in far-month August edged up by Rs 1.25, or 0.34 per cent to Rs 367.40 per kg in business turnover of 582 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in June traded higher by Rs 1.20, or 0.33 per cent to Rs 361.60 per kg in 13,547 lots.

Analysts said a firming overseas trend in metals before data forecast to show an increase in Chinese manufacturing, mainly led to the rise in copper prices.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months added 0.4 per cent to USD 5,682 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
