Copper prices hardened by 0.66 per cent to Rs 464.50 per kg in futures trade today as speculators widened their positions following pick up in spot demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in far-month August rose by Rs 3.05, or 0.66 per cent to Rs 464.50 per kg in business turnover of 22 lots.

On similar lines, the metal for delivery in June contracts gained Rs 2.90, or 0.63 per cent to Rs 460.35 per kg in 2,060 lots.

Analysts attributed the rise in copper futures to widening of positions by participants due to upsurge in demand from consuming industries in the physical market.
