Copper prices plunged 1.50 per cent to Rs 298.10 per kg in futures market in evening session today, as speculators indulged in reducing positions, considering a weak global trend.

The exchange opened for the evening session as it remained closed in the morning for 'Gurunanak Jayanti'.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in far-month February next year dived Rs 4.65, or 1.50 per cent to Rs 305.75 per kg in a business turnover of 783 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in November traded lower by Rs 4.10, or 1.36 per cent to Rs 298.10 per kg in 2,368 lots.

Market analysts attributed the fall in copper futures to a weak global trend amid concerns over Chinese demand after industrial metals posted their biggest increase yesterday in more than six weeks.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months fell 0.6 per cent to USD 4,580 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
