Copper strengthens on sustained demand, global cues

Copper prices strengthened at the non-ferrous metal market here today on heavy stockists buying amidst sustained demand from industrial users.

Meanwhile, nickel and tin dropped due to weak demand from alloy industries.

The industrial metals copper gained to highest in nearly two weeks at the LME in early trade finding comfort in a pledge by Chinese authorities to support growth as well as a shortfall in immediate supply.

Copper cable scrap and copper wire bar rose by Rs 3 per kg to Rs 488 and Rs 516 from Tuesday's close of Rs 485 and Rs 513.

Copper scrap heavy and copper utensils scrap moved up by Rs 2 per kg to Rs 479 and Rs 444 as against Rs 477 and Rs 442 previously.
 

Copper sheet cutting, aluminium utensils scrap and lead inched up by Re 1 per kg each to Rs 465, Rs 131 and Rs 141, respectively.

However, nickel dipped by Rs 15 per kg to Rs 1,210 from overnight close of Rs 1,225 and tin slid by Rs 10 per kg to Rs 1,580 from Rs 1,590.

Aluminium ingots eased by Rs 2 per kg to Rs 153 compared to Rs 155 yesterday and brass sheet cutting softened by Re 1 per kg to Rs 353.
