Copra edible surge on rising demand

Copra edible prices surged in an otherwise lacklustre spices market here today due to rising demand from stockists and retailers.

While, Alapuzha and Kozhikode Copra markets were closed today due to "Hartal".

Black pepper, ginger and copra rajapur prices held steady in the absence of any worthwhile buying.

Copra edible shot-up by Rs 500 per quintal to Rs 9,500 from last Saturday's closing level of Rs 9,000.

Following are today's closing rates in Rs with previous rates in brackets:

Black pepper (per kg) 555/611 (555/611), ginger bleached (per kg) 210 (210), ginger unbleached (per kg) 225 (225), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) closed (8,000), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) closed (7,800), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 10,000 (10,000), Copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 9,500 (9,000).
