Copra Kozhikode and copra Alapuzha prices rose at the spices market here today on heavy demand from bulk consumers and upcountry buyers supported by good domestic offtake.

Coupled with restricted arrivals along with strong corporate buying in view of the forthcoming festival season also aided the uptrend.

Meanwhile, copra Rajapur and copra edible dropped sharply due to stockists selling in the face of adequate stock positions.

Elsewhere, black pepper and ginger maintained a steady trend in the absence of necessary buying support.

Copra office Kozhikode spurted by Rs 300 per quintal to Rs 11,300 from last Saturday's level of Rs 11,000 and copra office Alapuzha firmed up by Rs 200 per quintal as compared to Rs 11,500 previously.

However, copra Rajapur Mumbai tumbled by Rs 500 per quintal to Rs 21,500 against last weekend level of Rs 22,000 and copra edible Mumbai fell by Rs 100 per quintal to Rs 13,600 from Rs 13,700.

Following are today's closing rates in Rs with previous rates in brackets:

Black pepper (per kg) 725/775 (725/775), ginger bleached (per kg) 270 (270), ginger unbleached (per kg) 290 (290), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 11,500 (11,300), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 11,300 (11,000), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 21,500 (22,000), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 13,600 (13,700).
