Copra prices surged at the spices market here today on fresh demand from stockists and retailers amid good export offtake.

While, ginger bleached and unbleached declined due to subdued retail offtake on the back of poor export enquiries following adequate supplies.

Black pepper ruled stable in the absence of any worthwhile buying activity.

Copra Rajapur climbed by Rs 200 per quintal to Rs 20,200 from last Saturday's closing level of Rs 20,000.

Copra office Alapuzha, copra Kozhikode and copra edible Mumbai rose by Rs 100 per quintal each to Rs 9,500, Rs 9,300 and Rs 13,100 as against Rs 9,400, Rs 9,200 and Rs 13,000 last weekend.

However, ginger bleached and unbleached moved down by Rs 20 per kg each to Rs 220 and Rs 240 from Rs 240 and Rs 260.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):

Black pepper (per kg) 710/760 (710/760), ginger bleached (per kg) 220 (240), ginger unbleached (per kg) 240 (260), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 9,500 (9,400), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 9,300 (9,200), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 20,200 (20,000), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 13,100 (13,000).
