A 24-year-old man, accused of theft, was tied to a pillar and beaten up by six policemen in the lockup in Kotwali police station following which three of them were suspended.

Neeraj, a resident of Bilgram Chungi who was nabbed on theft charges, was put up in the lock up where he allegedly had a tiff with another inmate yesterday, police said.

The policemen on duty lost their cool and brought Neeraj out and after tying him up with a pillar beat him up.

The "atrocity" on the victim stopped after the policemen came to know that their action has been filmed on a mobile phone by an onlooker and they put him back in the lock up.

Superintendent of Police Umesh Kumar Singh said of the six policemen in the video, three have been suspended and dismissal of three has been recommended.

The victim, however, got bail from the SDM court and was released today, the SP added.
