The incident occurred when a group of BJP workers led by their state president Sudhir Mungattiwar, MLA allegedly ransacked the WCL office demanding proper utilisation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to improve environmental conditions in Chandrapur and its adjoining areas.

Initially, Mungattiwar and his party workers staged a demonstration outside WCL's main gate which was locked by the management, anticipating trouble. Later, BJP workers stormed the compound and smashed the glass enclosure at the reception.
