Two police constables, who last month nabbed an alleged murder accused, on the run for nine months, were felicitated by the Thane police.
58-year-old Thakur Prasad Yadav, one of the accused in the murder case of Ramjit Ramcharan Mourya, was being chased by two complainants of the case in Bazaarpeth area here on February 22, Senior Police Inspector, Thane Nagar police station Mandar Dharmadhikari said today.
The constables - Ramesh Patil and Ganesh Patole - who were then on duty at Thane college exam centre, saw Prasad being chased and intercepted him. Prasad visited the Thane jail to meet his son and was held while he was returning, Dharmadhikari added.
He was allegedly involved in killing of Mourya under Navgarh police station limits in the district in May 2014. Mourya's body was found in a gas go-down lane in that township, police said.
Police had then arrested Shambu Thakurprasad Yadav, Tilakram Thakurprasad Yadav, Chuknau Zinak Yadav and Harishchandra Jilbu Yadav in connection with the murder case. Thakur Prasad Yadav and another person were on the run.
For their exemplary feat, the two constables were yesterday awarded Rs 2,000 each by Thane Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
