The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Arunachal Pradesh Police have arrested a militant of the NSCN (Unification) group and claimed to have foiled the banned outfit's plan to kill a "renowned" person here.
Navdeep Singh Brar, Superintendent of Police of the SIT, said on Saturday that the arrested militant is a close aide of Loliam Latey, the self-styled chairman of Myanmar- based NSCN(U).
"The militant was arrested from Lekhi village in Naharlagun on Friday along with ammunitions," he said.
The SP said that the outfit had hatched a conspiracy to abduct, extort and kill a "renowned" person.
He, however, declined to identify the target person due to security reasons.
