Ten policemen were injured here when supporters of two candidates for the upcoming panchayat elections clashed with them over rejection of their nomination papers, police said today.
Alleging that their nomination papers were rejected on the directions of people sitting in power, supporters of the two candidates staged a sit-in on the National Highway-29 late last night, Superintendent of Police, Mau, Shiv Prasad Upadhaya said.
When the policemen tried to clear the road, the protesters pelted stones on them and damaged their vehicles, the SP said, adding that the mob also snatched the rifles of policemen.

10 policemen were injured in the incident of whom two were admitted to a hospital while others were discharged after first aid, he said.
Efforts are on to nab those indulged in the incident and stern action will be taken against them, police said.
