Cops pool money to help family of woman who died in tree-fall

In a humanitarian gesture, suburban Govandi police today gave Rs 17,000 to the children of a 45-year-old woman who died in a tree fall, so that the family could repay the loan taken for her last rites.

Shraddha Ghodeshwar, who worked as domestic help, died when a tree collapsed on her in Panjarapol area of Chembur on December 7.

Ghodeshwar was the only breadwinner of her family, consisting of two sons, a daughter and elderly mother, said a police official.

Her children, who are studying in various institutes, had borrowed Rs 15,000 to perform her last rites, he said.

After the local Govandi police came to know about this, they pooled money and collected Rs 17,000, said Shahaji Umap, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 6.
 

Inspector Shashikant Mane and other officials today visited the family and handed over the amount, he said.
