The Chhattisgarh Assembly's

budget session was on Monday adjourned till March 25 due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

However, BJP and JCC(J) MLAs opposed the decision and protested on the floor of the House, with one legislator from the saffron party tearing the business schedule list and throwing it at the Chair.

The session, which began on Monday after a break for Holi, was adjourned after Health Minister TS Singhdeo moved a proposal.

Singhdeo's proposal to adjourn the House was, however, opposed by the BJP and JCC(J) members who claimed the minister cannot deliver his statement during Question Hour.

Speaker Speaker Charan Das Mahant asked MLAs wearing masks in view of the virus threat to remove them since the House was sanitised.

He then asked Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ravindra Choubey to speak on the issue.

Subsequently, Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik said the opposition would listen to statements from the government's side if Question Hour was allowed to take place.

The speaker adjourned the Question Hour citing emergency circumstances, and once the House resumed at noon, some BJP MLAs trooped into the Well of the House, while MLA Brijmohan Agrawal tore up the business schedule list and threw it at the Chair.

The speaker then adjourned the House till March 25.

Later, speaking to reporters, Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik said the BJP has given a no-confidence motion against the speaker to the Assembly secretariat.
