Corporator's aide booked for demanding bribe from developer

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today booked a man for allegedly demanding Rs 2.5 lakh bribe on behalf of a corporator from a developer for carrying out a building repair work without permission in Nalasopara in Thane district, official said.

"The 42-year-old developer had done the building repair work in Tulinj of Nalasopara, for which the accused had Jitendra Vengurlekar demanded bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh initially," the official said.

"The developer had lodged a complaint against Vengurlekar and the corporator with the ACB," he added.

The ACB sleuths today went to verify the complaint, where Vengurlekar raised the bribe amount to Rs 2.5 lakh, an ACB official said.
 

"We have registered an offence against Vengurlekar and not made any arrest in this case, further investigation is on," he said.
