Corporator shot dead in Meerut, situation tense

A Samajwadi Party leader and municipal corporator was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Kotwali police station area here today, the police said.

The 35-year-old corporator, Arif, a resident of Ismail Nagar, was targeted when he was at a saloon, SSP Manzil Saini said.

Following the incident, a large posse of police personnel was deployed as tension gripped the area.

Shadab, 34, suffered injuries in the incident.
