The Thane unit of Anti-Corruption Bureau today registered a case against five persons including a former municipal commissioner for irregularities in a scheme which resulted in a loss of around Rs 3.43 crore to exchequer.

Superintendent of police Datta Karale said the BJP MLA Narendra Pawar had alleged irregularities in a scheme to provide houses to slum-dwellers in Ambedkar Nagar and Datta Nagar by Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation under the Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) program.

The then municipal commissioner Govind Rathod and city engineer Patilbua Ugale accepted the contractor Niv Infrastructure's demand of 10 per cent (Rs 50 lakh) advance though it was illegal.

They also sanctioned additional equipment advance when even the work had not started, it was alleged.

Also, rent was paid to ineligible slum-dwelllers (on account of their rehabilitation).

Case has been registered against Govind Rathod, city engineer Patilbuva Ugale, executive engineer Ravi Jouras, contractors Subash Patil and Niv Infrastructure's Jitendra C Jain.
