A Costa Rican national has pleaded guilty to the charges of selling drugs in the US which was imported from India, the Justice Department has said.
Ramiro Navarro Quesada, 41, who was arrested in Madrid, early this year and subsequently extradited to the US in late August, pleaded guilty to two counts before Senior US District Judge Donetta W Ambrose in Pittsburgh.
Indian-American US Attorney Shardul S Desai is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The sentencing is scheduled for March 19, 2018. He faces a total sentence of 40 years in prison, a fine of USD 750,000, or both.
According to court papers, Quesada used a Costa Rican website to advertise the Internet sale of Schedule II and IV controlled substances and erectile dysfunction drugs, which were exported from India and received in the US.
"This case is a prime example of how the US will use all available tools at our disposal to identify and apprehend drug traffickers," said Wayne Salzgaber, Interpol Washington Acting Director.
