The cotton crop production estimates for the 2013-14 season have crossed the 380-lakh bale mark, while the arrivals this season up to March 31 are estimated at 301.75 lakh bales, the Cotton Association of India (CAI) today said.

The cotton crop output for the 2013-14 season beginning on October 1, 2013 is estimated at 381.25 lakh bales (170 kg each), CAI said in a release issued here today.

The cotton arrivals this season are 7.50 lakh bales higher than those estimated up to the same period last year, it added.

The rise in production estimate in 2013-14 is mainly due to good increase in output in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Cotton production in Gujarat is estimated to be at 122 lakh bales in 2013-14 season, compared to 86.40 lakh bales in 2012-13.

Similarly, in Maharashtra, the total output is estimated at 83 lakh bales in 2013-14, from 78.25 lakh bales in the previous season.
