Cotton farmer commits suicide in TN

A 35-year-old cotton farmer committed suicide in a village near here allegedly by consuming pesticide owing to "some issues" which are being probed, police said today.

The farmer, Rajaraman, hailing from a village near Valangaiman here consumed pesticide used for cotton crop yesterday and he was rushed to Kumbakonam Government Hospital.

He died in the hospital without responding to the treatment late last night, police said.

"We did not find any suicide note. The reason for his suicide is being probed. It seems he consumed pesticide owing to some issues," Deputy Police Superintendent (Thanjavur Rural) P Selvaraj told PTI, adding, a case of suspicious death has been filed.
 

"We found during preliminary investigation that he had unsuccessfully attempted to commit suicide twice earlier, he had been temperamental," he said.

The body was handed over to his family and it has been cremated today.
