Trinamool Congress councillor of ward-2 of Midnapore Municipality Debi Chakraborty and his 18-month-old grandson Agniswar died on the spot at Labadoba village this evening when their car hit the tree, they said.
Chakraborty's daughter-in-law Paramita succumbed after being taken to hospital and his son, who was driving the vehicle, were critically injured, they said.
Paromita and her infant son were sitting in the front seat and Debi Chakraborty was sitting in the rear seat, they said.
Chakraborty's son was critically injured and admitted to Midnapore Medical College hospital, they said.
They were returning from Durgapur to their home in Midnapore town after attending a family function, they said.
