A BJP councillor has demanded audit of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation's accounts since 1995, alleging that no audit has taken place since the civic body's inception.

BJP leader Rajendra Tyagi has submitted a letter to Uttar Pradesh's Chief Secretary in this regard along with a set of documents such as complaints, letters and RTI replies.

Speaking to reporters here today, Tyagi said, "No audit of accounts has taken place since 1995. In March 2008, the state government had also ordered for an audit, but Nigam officials flouted the orders."

He claimed that neither the government nor the corporation's officials were interested in an audit as a "lot of anomalies will come out once the budgets, payments and accounts are properly audited".

"Continuation of various construction works and payment to contractors without an audit done is unlawful," he added.
