Counting begins for Maharashtra Assembly byelections

Counting of votes for the Assembly byelections to Bandra (East) in suburban Mumbai and Tasgaon Kavthe-Mahankal in Sangli district began this morning.

In Tasgaon-Kavthe Mahankal bypoll, NCP candidate Suman Patil, the widow of party stalwart R R Patil, polled 4,991 votes after first round.

She was ahead of BJP rebel and independent candidate Swapnil Patil, who was on second position with 718 votes.
