Counting of votes in the elections to local bodies held in Andhra Pradesh would be taken up on April 9 instead of tomorrow as originally scheduled.

The directive was given by Andhra Pradesh High Court today on PILs seeking postponement of results and their declaration by the State Election Commission (SEC) after completion of second phase of polling for Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies in AP scheduled for May 7.

"The Standing Counsel of the State Election Commission in the Hon'ble High Court informed that the Hon'ble Court has passed orders on 01-04-2014 to undertake counting of votes and declare the results of election of (145) Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats on 09-04-2014, instead of 02-04-2014," the SEC said in a notification here.

The Commission, in compliance of the HC orders, re-notified April 9 as the the date for counting and declaration of results.

Polling for 145 municipalities and Nagar Panchayats was conducted on March 30.
